Yesterday at Mgungani we discussed and pin pointed in our groups 5 key elements of our communities using the previous week’s spider diagrams. It was fantastic to see the pupils working and developing their ideas together as group work in Tanzanian Primary schools is almost unheard of. This has been a real challenge for us to overcome and is therefore a great achievement to see them sharing their ideas. This was a huge improvement from the week before when we asked those with lots of ideas on their spider to share with others and got little response.
After presenting their ideas to the class we learnt that the most important WHO WHAT and WHY Characteristics of the Mgungani Community were summarised as; schools, water taps, the Weru Weru and Karanga River, village council office, the new village hospital, plants, wild animals like elephants and leopards and buildings, farms and roads.
We will be using these ideas to make decorative coil pots next week using clay sourced from, guess what… our community! In the mean time take a look at the smiles and fun we had yesterday sorting through the stones and making our clay!
